Don't Die Wondering Mix: "I Die Wondering"

London's Don't Die Wondering just got some new, flame-centric digital skin. To celebrate, this hub for bizarre, hybrid electronica of all wave shapes has put together a SoundCloud mix of some MP3 highlights from its 2 years of existence, and a short reflection on what it means to live in a "Tumblereality." Tracklisting after the jump. --Emilie Friedlander, Altered Zones

"In Tumblreality, the only thing that is real is the tumble. Posts tumble like real troopers in a sequential line in a blue boxed exodus out of sight into the comfort zone of other pages. Songs I’ve loved on pages 5, 19 and 33, in the next few days will tumble to pages 7, 21 and 35, respectively. Rediscovering a post page 97, the bandwidth of which is now long expired, can bring an unexpected tear to the eye, like finding a dusty old yearbook in the attic. The point here is not to get all teary eyed but rather to coin the term Tumblereality, as well as to say that DDW is now on SoundCloud. Here’s a mix to inaugurate it, of some favorite songs and artists I’ve had the privilege of sharing here over the last year or so. Thanks to all the artists included. And thanks to Linda Jarvis for the new blog design."

Wise Blood serves up an intriguing teaser for his much-anticipated Dovecote LP in this lonely, "night-in-the-life"-style home-taping. A shaky camera-hand follows Chris Laufman round the rougher edges of whatever city his nomadic lifestyle has him in currently and whiskey-glugging at the wonky old piano from which he coaxes the clip's accompanying song. "Incense" is an appropriately boozy, delinquent soul jam that hints at a movement away from the sample-heavy material of his previous releases. --Jack Shankly, Transparent

Wise Blood: "Loud Mouths"

We're excited to see that Wise Blood is coming out with a new album from Dovecote Records, also home to Hooray For Earth. If the chopped samples, distorted screams, and warped vocal diva-isms of "Loud Mouths" are any indication of the other new material, we can't wait. --Ric Leichtung, Altered Zones

Interview: Wise Blood

"I like to use a minimalist approach. I try to use one droning sample and come up with a melody from that. I also really want to try and blow out speakers. I want someone's trunk to rattle when they listen to it in their car." [Wise Blood interview; Pittsburgh Music Report, April 27, 2010]

Wise Blood: "B.I.G. E.G.O."

Wise Blood is the project of Pittsburgh's Christopher Laufman. His first release, ` + `, has four tracks brimming with thundering drums and claps, all of which feel a bit scratchy. A dusty, old organ leads into "B.I.G. E.G.O." and remains under Laufman's light, quick-moving vocals. The track closes with a perfectly blended sample, proving it is no exception to his unique sound. The EP is available for free on his bandcamp, and he's readying another EP for August 16 to back the non-album track, "2 All the Girls Who Have Trusted Me."
