In a cruel, cruel world where the bizarre descriptor of "outsider music" exists, Paul A Rosales is killing it right now. Stevie Moore-ish chunks of undefined pop genius, rendered with a disjointedness that would confound even Pynchon himself, may sound strangely familiar in these modern times. But Rosales' debut album, Wonder Wheel 1, is by no means kissing the Ariel Pink. "Nautilus Cry", its triumphant finale, is the sound of finally asking that girl in the fourth year out after getting your ugly braces removed and kicking her boyfriend-- who also happens to be the school bully-- squarely in the nuts. Trust us kids, good times are a' comin'.
