The Meanest Boys: "Strangest Things"

Real terrific sounds from Cali bedroom popster Will Marquis' solo project, The Meanest Boys. His Cheer Up Friend cassette rides a kind of technicolor '60s pop tip, swinging from jaunty to sweet n' wistful but always riding that totally charming, fuzzed-out home recording vibe. This track, "Strangest Things", is one of the jauntiest, all swagger and confidence despite the super-cheap drum machine and overbearing bass riff. You can buy The Meanest Boys' earlier tape from Mirror Universe, which is also home to RQ faves Cough Cool, Blissed Out, Pink Priest. Oh, and this record's bandcamp page has basically the best tag ever: "lo-fi satanic pop weed witchcraft California". (via Rose Quartz)
