Golden Axe: "Telephone"

Auckland's kings of scuzz get kind of "epic" on this cut from their new album Fantasy Footwork, letting those hijacked exercise VHS tape rhythms and joyous SNES riffs build up for a couple minutes before Chris Cudby's warped shouts come blasting through the receiver. There's a weird innate desire to dance and/or exercise to Golden Axe's music, but nobody I play it to can figure out how so they just kind of lose their shit to it. Been blasting Fantasy Footwork pretty heavily and I love how it sits perfectly alongside our favourite Peace Age dudes with their similarly skewed pop visions informed by video games, Garfieldisms, Angelfire websites, and junk food. In my iTunes this album's genre is tagged as "fun."
