Altered Zones

Among all the angular, bass-heavy electronica coming out of the UK right now-- under the various headings of 2-step/garage/dubstep, and through labels like Hotflush, Night Slugs, and Audio Hessle-- young London producer Drop/Dead takes this approach in a more linear, Balearic direction. He adds and subtracts elements of house and dubstep to create deep melodic grooves that are constantly re-inventing themselves. Driven by a warped vocal snippet over backwards-leaning percussion, "Always Love You" floats in dark ambience until dropping midway through into something completely cathartic-- only to inch gradually back to it's starting point.
