Herbcraft's new Papers cassette, out last week on Woodsist sister label Fuck It Tapes, reminds us that the "back to the land" ethos that spawned New Weird America half a decade ago is still alive and well-- at least for Portland's Matthew Lajoie, whose vertiginous psych-folk freakouts are exactly the kind of thing one might hope to stumble upon while wandering the forest alone. "One Thousand Papers", below, joins other previously unreleased material recorded between the band's first live appearances and this Spring's Herbcraft Discovers the Biter Water of Agartha, one of Chocolate Bobka's favorite LPs of 2010.5.
