Upon pressing play, I slowly eased into my position with a distant ringing, an eerie chime pattern, and an elusively panning arpeggio in my ears. I was levitating above ground in the beginning stages of flying. Ricardo Donoso's "The North Quadrant (Ascension)," from his forthcoming Progress Chance LP for Digitalis, continues it's climb in methodically paced tiers. Each minute brings a new discovery as you hover higher from the earth: a fuzzy pulse wave of bass, a whisper of satellites in the sky, and the fascinating dialog of these patterns in the track's final form. Donoso succeeds in his goal-- techno without the use of drums or an obvious four-on-the-floor beat-- by creating a robust, pulsing atmosphere one can't help but be totally absorbed by. --Matt Sullivan, Altered Zones
