Trouble Books and Mark McGuire: "Song for Reinier Lucassen's Sphinx"

As if the perienially evocative Mark McGuire's acoustic and/or electric loops weren't already glowing enough, he teamed up with Akron-based "indie-synth dynamo duo" Trouble Books back in April for interior warmth and domesticly situated cosmicness. This limited Bark and Hiss release is poised to surprise McGuire drone die-hards with more linear strategies (i.e. vocals!), but he's still abstracting the quietly epiphanal via his signature, Andy Summers-style guitar harmonics to conjure some real safe places and beaconing moods. Word out there seems to suggest another collaboration between Mark McGuire and Spencer Clarke (of Monopoly Child Star Searchers) sometime soon. --Richard MacFarlane, Rose Quartz
