Flower Orgy: "Black Wizard"

"Black Wizard" is six-and-a-half minutes of ramshackle freak-rock from Brooklyn's Flower Orgy, who have the particularity of consisting of three females and one male, and of residing in Brooklyn's peninsular Red Hook neighborhood, which is actually shaped like a hook. Full of gristled licks, co-ed vocal harmonies, and surprise chord changes, this Alex Bleeker-recorded guitar stomper could easily be a lost New England fire pit jam between the defunct Vermont psych-folk collective Feathers and the Magik Markers at their most unhinged. Especially like the half-screamed, half-sung "I don't know what you're doing to me" refrain-- presumably addressed to the black wizard himself-- and the guitar free-for-all near the end, which is one beautiful mess if I've ever heard one. --Emilie Friedlander, Visitation Rites
