It's been a helluva long time coming, but Austin's Pure X (formerly Pure Ecstasy) announced an official release date for their debut LP this afternoon, along with the immediate re-release of last year's You're In It Now EP, which whet our appetite for their devastating blend of elemental songcraft, bruised texture, and happy acoustic accident. The aptly titled Pleasure drops July 5th via Acéphale. Not quite sure what Nate, Jesse, and Austin are cooking up this time around, but if the album art is any indication, we're in for quite the emotional rollercoaster ride indeed. "Back Where I Began," a bonus track on the EP re-issue, reminds us just how closely ecstasy is married to its obverse in Pure X's music, constriction to release, pop pleasure to wretched dissonance. Lo-fi rock lovers beware; this stuff may seem pretty "of the moment," but it's more like a time-release capsule of oblivion --Emilie Friedlander, Altered Zones
