I've watched this Thomas Byrd-directed Happy New Year video for "Twins" at least a dozen times since Matt Weiner, coincidentally a member of a band by the same name, sent it over last week. The clip was shot atop the Danbro building in Bushwick, Brooklyn, which houses both Newtown Radio and Happy New Year's recording space/studio. The visuals remind me of a much more intelligible My Bloody Valentine clip, sans strobe lights and staticky television fuzz. The song is arresting in its own right, a minimal and dirgeful stomp brightened by Eleanor Logan's silky, echoing, "it's about time" vocal hook. The combination of the two kinda recreates the feeling you get where you're a lot more attracted to someone because you can't tell if they're good-looking or not. Like, you see someone in a certain slant of light and it intrigues you-- not because they're gorgeous, but because they might be and you can't tell. At the very least, they make you stop and stare. --Ian Nelson, Friendship Bracelet
